Bayer Leverkusen’s Kerim Alajbegovic (18) looks set to take an impressive turnaround. Most recently, Italian media reported Atalanta were favorites to sign the winger, but Chelsea now appear to be in pole position, according to Telegraph and Bosnian media outlet Factor. If the deal is completed, Alajbegovic could become the most expensive U-19 transfer in the Bundesliga.

As Kiker reported, Alaibegovic told officials at Bayer Leverkusen that he wanted to leave the club. The Bosnian was only brought back this summer via a buy-out option for €8 million after enjoying a great season at Red Bull Salzburg. In 44 games he scored 17 goals. He was also at the World Cup with Bosnia and scored a goal in the group stage. Its market value increased from 5 million to 25 million euros over the year.
According to a Telegraph report, Alajbegovic is valued at the equivalent of €35.2 million. If this amount were transferred from London to Leverkusen, it would be the most expensive U19 transfer in Bundesliga history. Bayern paid €35 million for Renato Sanchez, who arrived from Benfica as European champions in 2016. A transfer fee of €30 million or more has only been paid 20 times worldwide for a professional under the age of 18. One of them is Jude Bellingham, who moved from Birmingham to Dortmund in the summer of 2020 for €30.2 million. It is reported that the demands on Atalanta amounted to around 30 million euros.
At Chelsea, Alaibegovich met an old friend in coach Xabi Alonso. Although he never played for Werkself under his management, he was part of the professional team several times, playing for the U19 national team.
In London, Alajbegovic is likely to be a replacement for Alejandro Garnacho, who is likely to move to Aston Villa (For the news: is this deal a financial ploy). The Bosnian World Cup star will be the eighth new signing for the Blues, who are now inching closer and closer to the $300 million mark. So far, only Tottenham have invested more money than Chelsea.
