Amnesty International UK said it regretted the publication of a report classifying a sexual violence support center set up by JK Rowling in Edinburgh as “anti-right”.

Beira’s Place was founded in 2022 by the Harry Potter author and other campaigners, who argued it met an unmet need in the city to support women only.

The institution was named among a list of gender-sensitive organizations in a briefing published last week by Amnesty International entitled “A growing threat: the anti-human rights movement in the UK.”

The human rights organization now says the briefing was uploaded without going through normal checks and has been temporarily withdrawn pending an internal review.

The statement said: “We regret that this briefing was uploaded to our website without going through the established internal review processes that are in place to ensure consistency, accuracy and relevance to Amnesty International UK’s position.

“The use of language does not reflect the position of Amnesty International UK and has therefore been promptly removed.

“We remain committed to protecting human rights, including women’s rights and transgender rights.”
