Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said she has no plans to retaliate against U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to impose a 50 per cent tariff on Canadian goods with a ban on alcohol.
She said on her radio show that the ban is an emergency measure and leaves it up to retailers and consumers to decide how to stock their shelves and whether to drink American products in the face of looming tariffs.

Several Canadian provincial liquor boards stopped purchasing American alcohol last year in response to Trump’s previous tariff threats and comments about annexation.
While Saskatchewan and Alberta returned American booze to shelves within months, major purchasing provinces such as Ontario and Quebec have not restocked American liquor.
