Ahmedabad police become ‘angels’
Amid the ongoing heavy rainfall in the city of Ahmedabad, the commendable work of the Ahmedabad City Police has come to the fore. Sarkhey Zh.Zh. College: Students stranded near college due to heavy flooding were brought safely to the bus stand by the team of Sarkhej police station.
PC Point Char Rasta: Police present at Bandobast helped three schoolgirls who took shelter under a tree in the rain and took them to their house in a government vehicle.
Sonal Char Rasta (Gurukul Road): After a school van got stuck in water in Vastrapur, the police immediately made alternative arrangements for the children and sent them away safely. In addition, the schoolchildren were safely taken home to the Danilimda police station area. Parents and citizens heaved a sigh of relief after the commendable action of the city police in the downpour.
KM convoy stuck in traffic jam
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s convoy was stuck at Palladium Char Rasta Mall in Ahmedabad due to heavy rains. Due to which traffic towards Gandhinagar and ISKCON was stopped. Although the passage near the Palladium shopping center was opened to resolve the situation, the chief minister’s convoy was stuck in traffic jam for a long time.
Over 5 inches of rain in 6 hours
Today (July 23), Meghraja struck in a big way in the western and southwestern areas of the city for 6 hours from 6 am to 12 pm. While the highest rainfall is 5.91 inches in Sarkhej and 5.89 inches in Bhopal. Additionally, 5.73 inches of rain was recorded in Jodhpur, 5.59 inches in Bodakdev, over 5 inches in Taltej and Science City. Even in Memnagar and Maktampur, heavy rains up to five inches inundated several roads.
Prahladnagar was so flooded that cars were floating on the water.

Mandal of Ahmedabad district received the highest rainfall of 1.69 inches.
Rainy weather prevailed in various taluks of Ahmedabad district from 6 am to 10 am today. While the highest rainfall was 1.69 inches in Mandal, 1.10 inches in Dhandhuka, 1.06 inches in Viramgam and 1.02 inches in Detroj Rampur. Ahmedabad city received 0.59 inches while Dholak, Sanand and Bawla received light rain and Duskroi and Dholera received minor rain.

Notifying DEO to take time off or make decisions if schools are flooded
In the wake of heavy rains in Ahmedabad city, the city DEO has clearly stated that “school administrators can take decisions at their own discretion in those areas or schools where flooding is observed.” As the safety of students is of paramount importance, the previous circular has been re-informed to all schools so that they are not exposed to any risk.”
Heavy traffic jam on the SG highway
In the morning, there was a huge traffic jam on the SG city highway leading from Taltej to ISKCON. Long queues of vehicles are observed due to flooding near the ISKCON bridge leading to the Karnavati Club and YMCA Char Road. People who went to work in rainy weather got into a lot of trouble.
Students should take extra care regarding safety due to rain.
• The director should take appropriate decision depending on the rain situation.
• If any students cross the riverbed, call the student or parents and let them know.
• If possible, inform parents and ask them to pick up students.
• Make sure there are no exposed wires in the school.
• Do not allow students to use electronic newsletters at school.
• The principal of a school that has a bus stand must give specific instructions to the driver that the bus should not pass if there is water flowing through a river or canal.
• Take steps to immediately dispose of water at school.
• Notify the office immediately if any incident occurs.
In Ahmedabad, the system opened after 2 hours of rain!
Just two hours of rain in Ahmedabad’s Maninagar area opened the door for pre-monsoon operation of the system. Roads were flooded due to waterlogging on roads from Bhairavnath to Jawaharchkak (four roads). Motorists and pedestrians are facing significant problems due to flooding.

According to the latest data from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the city received significant rainfall in just 4 hours from 6 am to 10 am on July 23, especially in the areas of Ahmedabad West where Meghraja was stationed. Bhopal received the highest rainfall of 1.99 inches during the period, while Sarhag received 1.89 inches and Bodakdev 1.81 inches. Apart from this, other major areas of north-west and south-west zones such as Jodhpur zonal 1.71 inches, Jodhpur 1.67 inches, Taltej 1.30 inches and Science City 1.16 inches were also inundated with rain intensity of over 1 inch in the morning.

The three gates of the Wasna Dam in Ahmedabad have been opened due to the continuous increase in water flow from the upper reaches of the river. Citizens were also urged not to go to the river bank.
Some underground passages in the city are closed, Zero visibility due to rain
Akhbar Nagar underpass, Parimal underpass, Jalaram underpass, Usmanpur underpass and Shahibagh underpass were closed. This immediate action was taken by the system as a precautionary measure to avoid traffic problems in the city and inconvenience to motorists. On the other hand, the rain reduced visibility to zero.
Flood in western and ring areas of Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad S.G. Areas like Highway, Gotha, Jodhpur, Satellite, Vejalpur, Makarba, Sarkhej, Shantipura, Shehla, Bhopal, Guma, Sanathal, Bakrol, Visalpur and Kasindra are receiving rain. As heavy rain began in the morning, several low-lying areas and major roads faced flooding. Due to rainy weather and flooding, traffic on the road was less than on normal days.
