A man has been shot dead in Carlingford, north-west Sydney.

NSW Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public after a man was shot dead in a “very brazen attack” in Sydney’s north-west.

Members of the public called emergency services to a house on North Rocks Road in Carlingford shortly after 7am to reports of a shooting.

Police found a man in his 30s with serious injuries in the car, who died at the scene.

NSW Police said the homicide unit is investigating.

Acting Superintendent Michael Marinello said investigators believe it was not a “random attack.”

“However, we believe this is an isolated incident and we can therefore reassure the public that there is no ongoing threat,” he said.

Members of the Raptor Squad, which targets groups and individuals involved in serious and organized crime, were also at the scene.

Superintendent Marinello said the victim was known to police, although his identity has not been officially confirmed.

“This does appear to be a very brazen attack,” he said.

“Any shooting in public places in NSW is of concern to us and we will ensure we do everything possible to identify and track down the offender or offenders in this matter.”

Superintendent Marinello said the man had multiple gunshot wounds, but the number of shots fired was not confirmed.

He said a number of witnesses had contacted police.

“There are people who were home at the time and they are helping us with the investigation,” he said.

The crime scene has been established.

North Rocks Road was closed in both directions in Carlingford, with the public asked to avoid the area and motorists advised to use alternative routes.
