As you may have noticed, ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 dropped on PS5 (and PS4) today, and it looks like there’s already a ridiculous amount of interest in both of them on the platform.
It’s still very, very early, but we wanted to at least give you some early footage so you can judge for yourself how different the new PlayStation version is from the old Xbox version, and at first glance it does seem like these are mostly run-of-the-mill ports without any major new features.

Of course, one of the things that has frustrated Xbox players for a while now is encountering obvious “hackers” on the Xbox 360 originals, so this could be an area where PlayStation gets a clear edge.
What Not The benefit is that PlayStation owners must pay for Black Ops 1 and 2 regardless of whether they owned them in the PS3 era or not, while the Xbox 360 versions are backwards compatible with Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Activision prices the new ports in line with older Xbox versions, meaning their base price is £34.99/$39.99 (and both season passes also cost £24.99/$29.99).
However, as you can see in the image above, PS Plus owners get a significant discount at launch.
Below we’ll leave you with some early footage of the PS5 versions compared to the Xbox footage underneath. Stay tuned as we’ll be back today or tomorrow with more details on these ports once people start discovering the differences in more detail (if there are any!).
