More changes were thought to be coming, and a source said Thursday afternoon that three members of the analytics department, including director of hockey systems Wesley Waldner, analyst Bruce Peter and developer Andrew Lowe, had also been let go.
What roles did the employees perform?
Metcalf has been with the Leafs since 2014 and played a key role in building the club’s analytics department. He has been in his current position since 2022.
Leach was hired two years ago under then-Leafs general manager Brad Treliving.

Morrison has been with the Leafs since 2004, initially joining the team as an amateur scout. His roles with the Leafs included director of amateur scouting and director of professional scouting.
Among those in the front office who have already left since Chayka and Mats Sundin were hired in the first week of May are assistant general manager Brandon Pridham, assistant general manager and personnel specialist Derek Clancy and special adviser Shane Doan.
Among the employees Chayka hired were Judd Brackett, assistant general manager for player evaluation, and Freddie Hamilton, chief of staff.
There was an indication that Leach’s future was in doubt when it was Brackett, not Leach, who was given the opportunity to speak to the media after the draft. At the scouting grounds in Buffalo three weeks before the draft, it was Leach who met with the media to discuss Toronto’s plans for the draft.
Behind the bench, Craig Berube was fired. After a five-week search, Jim Hillier was hired as the Leafs’ new head coach.
What changes have occurred on the ice?
On the ice, Chaika made significant changes, most notably acquiring star defenseman Darren Raddysh in a trade from the Tampa Bay Lightning and then signing goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky as a free agent. And, of course, drafting Gavin McKenna first overall.

Sullivan was promoted to the Leafs coaching staff from the Marlies in December when Marc Savard was fired and helped turn the team’s power play around.
When the Leafs announced the additions of Daniel Alfredsson, Jon Gruden and Brad Werenka to Hiller’s coaching staff this week, they said Mike Van Ryn and Derek Lalonde would not return.
There was no mention of Sullivan in the team’s press release. Now we know why.
