The following is taken from a press release issued by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office regarding a pool incident that occurred on July 4, 2026 on Game Farm Road.
On July 4, 2026, deputies with the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a 2-year-old child being pulled from a pool and not breathing.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies immediately began life-saving measures, including CPR, until emergency personnel arrived and provided medical assistance. The child was taken from the scene to Mercy Urbana Hospital.
Deputies remained at the residence to investigate. Witnesses were interviewed, evidence was documented, and surveillance video from the property was collected as investigators processed the scene.
The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the 2-year-old later died.
The incident remains under investigation by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office and no additional information is being released at this time.
The sheriff’s office asked the public to keep the child, family and everyone affected by the incident in their thoughts.
