Coogler directed the pilot under the working title Alphabet soupand the next hurdle is ordering a full series from Hulu. It’s because of this pending decision that Patel called more episodes a possibility rather than a promise.
The pilot follows two high-ranking but different FBI agents who form an unlikely bond when they take over a long-shuttered unit dedicated to cases involving unexplained phenomena. How different will the X-Files reboot be from the original series?

Many fans are looking forward to X-Files reboot and wonder how different it will be from the original show. The clearest signal so far is who Patel and Deadwyler are not. Ryan Coogler skipped the obvious step of giving Mulder and Scully to a new pair of actors and instead created two agents exclusive to this version. This choice is a sign of a clean slate, giving the new team the opportunity to write their own mythology rather than live by the old one.
The heart of the original that made it iconic remains intact. The premise still brings together two opposing investigators in a forgotten FBI unit, and Coogler said he wanted both individual “monster of the week” cases and a slow-paced conspiracy arc, the same balance that the 1990s series used so well.
Perhaps the biggest difference fans notice is the tone. Coogler sent the pilot back to Vancouver, the rain-drenched city that gave the early seasons an unsettling mood, before the crew moved to Los Angeles and shed some of that moody atmosphere.
He also introduced Sinners by cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw and received advice from Vince Gilligan, who wrote the original series before he directed it. Breaking Bad. These elements are intended to make the show an ambitious take on the original material, filtered through the lens of modern concerns. Even though the reboot will make changes, the features of the original will remain.
