As the biggest World Cup in soccer history enters its fourth week, less than half of the 48 teams that started the tournament remain in contention for the title in North America.

The quarter-finals are already in full swing with four of the final eight teams confirmed to take part in the second day of play in the round of 16.

Some countries that confirmed the third stage of the knockout stage achieved comfortable victories, while others had a late scare but managed to survive.
