This Sunday, July 5, at around 2 p.m., the Clermont-Ferrand police station received numerous calls reporting “a man who threatened people and attacked them with a large knife“, in the area of Carmes Square. The National Police reports: “Our colleagues noticed the suspect at the corner of Jean-Baptiste Dumas and Barbier Dobre streets. When police arrived to arrest him, the man lunged at them with a knife. One of the policemen used a weapon to neutralize him.“
The suspect is then struck. He was then evacuated to the Gabriel-Montpier University Hospital: at the time of transport, his life prognosis was not at risk. The National Police continued: “There are three stabbing victims. They are seriously injured. Their life prognosis is not concernedAccording to police, the suspect is a 34-year-old man born in Darfur. In a press release, Clermont-Ferrand prosecutor Eric Serfass emphasizes: “The arrested 34-year-old man has already been sentenced by the courts of Clermont-Ferrand. At this stage there is no evidence to suggest a terrorist nature of the facts.“.
