Matthias Lauda took a demo ride in the Ferrari 312T that his late father Niki Lauda drove in the 1975 Formula 1 Championship. The race took place at the Red Bull Ring before the Austrian Grand Prix.

Taking part in the annual Parade of Legends at the Spielberg Circuit, Lauda returned the iconic chassis number 12 to the Austrian race track.

The 45-year-old, an accomplished GT and endurance racer who previously competed as a factory driver for Aston Martin in the World Endurance Championship and DTM, drove the historic car around the 4.319km circuit to mark his father’s first title campaign in Formula One.

The Ferrari 312T was designed by legendary Ferrari technical director Mauro Forghieri. He was introduced in the third round of the 1975 season in South Africa. The 312T, powered by a 3-liter naturally aspirated flat-12 engine producing around 500 horsepower, ended a ten-year championship drought for the Maranello team.

Joining the Ferrari 312T in the Parade of Legends are the 1976 Lotus 77, 1976 Tyrrell P34, 1977 Tyrrell P34B, 1978 Brabham BT46B, 1981 Lotus 88, 1983 Brabham BT52, 1983 Brabham BT52B, Brabham BT52B 2002. Ferrari F2002 and Red Bull RB6 2010.

Other drivers included in the Parade of Legends were Jan Lammers, Pier Luigi Martini, Paolo Barilla, Jean Alesi, Karl Wendlinger, Christian Danner, Mark Webber, Rubens Barrichello and David Coulthard.

After the Parade of Legends, Mercedes driver George Russell successfully turned pole position into his second race win of the season. The Briton was joined on the podium by four-time champion Max Verstappen and Russell’s teammate and current championship leader Kimi Antonelli, who finished third.

Lauda was already spotted during the Austrian Grand Prix weekend as a guest of the Mercedes F1 team.
