Kimi Antonelli set another exclamation point in Formula 1 and took pole position at Silverstone. Hamilton finished third in qualifying at his home track.
In Saturday’s qualifying, World Championship leader Antonelli showed the best time – 1:28.111 minutes. This is the fifth time the Italian has started from first place in a premier motorsport race. The 19-year-old footballer recently started on the front in Monaco.
Now he kept Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc and world record holder Lewis Hamilton at bay. Antonelli has already dimmed the local British hero’s hopes for a duel of generations.
Hamilton up Favorite route
On Friday, veteran Hamilton (41) took pole position in the sprint, eleven thousandths ahead of teenager Antonelli (19), but Antonelli then prevailed to win the short race for the first time.
Hamilton, 47 points behind in the World Cup standings, remains a force to be reckoned with on the traditional circuit. With nine successes he holds the record at Silverstone and has already finished on the podium 15 times, plus two second places in the sprint.
Hulkenberg starts from 13th position
George Russell, Isak Hajjar and world champion Lando Norris will start from the front in the race on Sunday (16:00). Max Verstappen cursed ‘disaster’ during qualifying; he finished seventh.
Meanwhile, Nico Hulkenberg remains firmly in 13th place. He has already achieved this in sprint qualifying and the sprint race. A year ago, he climbed to the podium from 19th on the grid and celebrated the biggest success of his career. His teammate Gabriel Bortoleto finished in 11th place.
Race on Sunday
The race will take place on Sunday at 16:00. Then electrical control will also be very important. The high speed circuit does not have hard enough braking points to charge the batteries. The sprint led to a lot of overtaking.
