All four living former US presidents shared messages as the country celebrates its 250th anniversary.

President Joe Bidenformer president, recalls the premise of the Declaration of Independence that all men are created equal.

“We chose this path 250 years ago, but this is where the work began, not where it ended,” he says, before warning that the country’s promise of equality for all is still a work in progress.

“We still have not fully implemented these words in the Declaration. But we never strayed from them, and on the Fourth of July, I hope we can all make one commitment: we will never do that.”

The country’s first black president Barack Obama, has shared excerpts from a recent speech he gave at the opening of his presidential museum last month, in which he talks about the nation’s foundations and shared values.

“There is still much to be done to realize the founding ideals of the nation,” he says, adding that “each generation must take up the unfinished work of the last and carry it forward – standing up for what is right, righting what is wrong, and making our union a little more perfect.”

43rd President George Bush says that “the next 250 years will require Americans to be citizens, not spectators.” Americans need to “take an active interest in the health and well-being of our country and the communities in which they live,” he adds.

His predecessor Bill Clinton In his anniversary message, he also commented on the state of US politics today.

“Today we mark this milestone against the backdrop of another period of deep division, renewed questions about America’s future and its role in the world, and grave threats to our own institutions and our democracy itself,” the 42nd president said.
