After opening at 69, Brad Dalke was in good shape to make it to the BMW International Open. A round later he can win it.
Dahlke, a former amateur standout who has become more widely recognized as an influential golfer, shot a 6-under 66 on Friday in Munich, Germany, to take a two-under lead after 36 holes.
This is Dalke’s debut on the DP World Tour. He participates in the sponsor’s invitation – and makes the most of it. The 28-year-old had seven birdies and a bogey in the second round to shoot 9 under par. Hennie du Plessis (-11) leads three players in shots including Carlos Ortiz, Michael Hollick and Jack Sr.
“Obviously I didn’t have a goal this week,” said Dalke, who is T-5 along with Paul Waring, Frederic Lacroix and Joe Dean.
“I just wanted to have a little fun and enjoy it,” Dalk added. “And obviously filming 66 is pretty fun, so that helps the cause.”
Dalke, with brother Tommy on his bag, is competing in his first world-class tournament since 2020 on the Korn Ferry Tour. He finished second at the 2016 U.S. Amateur and helped Oklahoma reach the 2017 National Championships. He was most recently a member of the Good Good Golf team.
Dalke’s Friday began with a wild tee shot into the right-hand trees on the par-4. His recovery shot ended 12 feet from the hole, just short of the green. He made it and then made another birdie from the No. 5 tee.
He then made three consecutive birdie putts on numbers 9–11, making birdie putts of 5, 28 and 6 feet respectively.
Dalk made another 28-footer at the 14th and then made his only putt of the day at No. 15. His round ended with a traditional two-putt from 43 feet for birdie at the par-5 18th.
