Kansas City leaders on Tuesday released updated projections for one-time economic impacts as well as expected annual economic impacts for the $4.5 billion capital project in Kansas. The project includes a new $3 billion Chiefs stadium in Wyandotte County, Kansas; a $300 million training facility and headquarters in Olathe, Kansas; and $1.2 billion to build private ancillary properties around both projects.

“Since Lamar Hunt moved the team from Dallas to Kansas City in 1963, the franchise has continued to have a significant economic, cultural and social impact throughout Chiefs Kingdom,” said Chiefs President Mark Donovan. “This once-in-a-generation project, which is actually four projects in one, is having a truly transformative impact on the state of Kansas and the entire Kansas City region. This project has real short and long term benefits and we are excited about what we will build together over the next five years and beyond.”

In a report prepared by Econsult Solutions, Inc. in April 2026, shows that a one-time capital investment of $4.5 billion for all four elements of the project—the stadium, training facility, and two private development areas—is expected to generate $1.9 billion in indirect impacts (business-to-business costs) and $1.8 billion in induced impacts (payroll costs), for a total of $8.2 billion for the greater Kansas City region during construction.

Additionally, during construction, real estate development activities are projected to generate 36,500 full-time employee-years in the region, generate $2.7 billion in employee benefits and generate $106.4 million in tax revenue for the State of Kansas.

“Funding for Elkhart schools, Atchison roads and everything in between should come from economic growth and job creation… not higher taxes,” said Kansas Senate President Ty Masterson. “This is important to the future of our state, and that’s why the Kansas City Chiefs project is so important to Kansas. By generating tens of millions of dollars in revenue for the state and creating thousands of Kansas jobs, this project helps put Kansas on a strong financial footing for future generations while reducing the burden on our taxpayers.”

“We are entering into a strategic economic partnership for three fundamental reasons… to grow our economy, create jobs and reduce the burden on Kansas taxpayers,” said Kansas House Speaker Daniel Hawkins. “The partnership with Kansas City leaders clearly meets the needs of each of them, and this study answers many of the questions that have been raised about the project. “I look forward to seeing the positive impact this historic opportunity will have on Kansas today and for generations to come.”

Beginning in 2031, teams and stadiums in Kansas will generate annual economic and financial benefits for the entire Kansas City region. Added to this impact will be more than a million projected annual visitors to NFL games, concerts and other special events, which will benefit local economies including hotels, food and beverage, retail and transportation.

Once the stadium and practice facility open in 2031, team and stadium operating and visitor expenses are projected to generate $1.5 billion in direct, indirect and induced impacts annually for the entire Kansas City region. This economic activity is expected to support 8,500 full-time equivalent jobs and $833.9 million in employee benefits annually on both sides of the state line, as well as generate $67.0 million in annual tax revenues for the State of Kansas.

“Wyandotte County is a special place with a limitless future,” said Mayor and CEO of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, Crystal Watson. “This project creates incredible new opportunities for this future and for all of us. It creates thousands of new jobs. He is creating new and incredible investments in our community that will positively impact every corner of Wyandotte County. It attracts millions of visitors who will spend money and stay, as well as new revenue that will allow us to fund our roads, sidewalks, public safety and other key services. He creates an even brighter future for us, our children and grandchildren.”

“While it is a source of community pride to be home to the Kansas City Chiefs’ corporate office and training facility, this study demonstrates why Olathe entered into this partnership,” said Olathe Mayor John Bacon. “This will bring hundreds of millions of dollars in investment and thousands of new jobs to our community. This type of economic development and new sources of revenue are necessary for us to continue to have one of the lowest rates for city services in the state.”
