The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be one of the organizers USA will headline the round of 16 matches on Wednesday (1 July) when they take on Bosnia and Herzegovinawith a place in the last 16 on the line.

This will be the fourth time the two teams have met, although the first time in a competitive setting after three friendlies (the U.S. won the last meeting 1-0 in 2021). The hosts topped Group D thanks to wins over Paraguay (4-1) and Australia (2-0) and a solitary defeat to Turkey (3-2) after their passage to the next round was already assured. Bosnia and Herzegovina, competing in only their second men’s World Cup, stormed into the knockout stages after a vital 3-1 win over Qatar saw them move into third place from Group B.

Before this competition England continue their pursuit of their first world title since the Three Lions’ famous triumph in 1966, when they faced Democratic Republic of the Congo for the first time. England finished top of Group L with wins over Croatia (4-2) and Panama (2-0) and a 0-0 draw with Ghana. DR Congo is competing under its own name for the first time – having previously played for Zaire at the 1974 tournament in West Germany – after progressing through Group K to finish third with four points.

Then Belgium – who have already beaten their last World Cup in Qatar, where they failed to escape the group stage – take on Senegal. Unlike Belgium, the Terangi Lions qualified from their group four years ago only to lose to England in the round of 16. But the Red Devils, ranked 10th in the world and winners of Group G, will still be considered favorites over their African rivals.
