As customer and wider industry preferences continue to shift from physical discs to digital discs, physical disc production for all new games released on PlayStation consoles will cease starting in January 2028. After this date, new games will only be available on PlayStation Store or digital retailers. This transition will not affect games that have already been released or will be released in disc format before January 2028.
This is a natural direction for Sony Interactive Entertainment to adapt to consumer preferences, as the general preference for digital media far exceeds the preference for physical discs. This transition will allow us to better align with the way our community prefers to access and play games today.
We will continue to prioritize our resources to drive innovation in how players can access games and provide choice when purchasing new games, whether from distributors or the PlayStation Store.
