Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay said that the state government will henceforth procure only AC buses. The CM’s message was conveyed by Transport Minister Vijay Tamilan Parthiban while talking to reporters. Parthiban added that the CM wants people to travel extensively and comfortably in air-conditioned vehicles.

Parthiban made the announcement on the sidelines of an event held on behalf of the ruling TMC in Salem on Sunday. According to a Hindu report, he said that Vijay wants all remote areas of Tamil Nadu to be connected by a bus network. The Chief Minister also said that all buses should have all the necessary facilities for the comfortable travel of every person, including himself.

Parthiban told reporters that although Vijay had recently traveled on a government bus, he would like every new vehicle to have air conditioning, the Indian report said.

Last week, Vijay launched a fleet of 300 new buses across the southern state. During the visit, the actor-turned-politician was seen chatting with the conductor.

The new fleet, acquired for Rs 127.21 crore, consists of a total of 164 diesel buses and 136 BS-VI compliant CNG buses. The vehicles were immediately deployed from key transit hubs such as Koyambedu and Kilambakkam to improve connectivity and reduce waiting time for passengers.

The flag surrender ceremony was attended, among others, by several high-ranking ministers and officials of the State Department of Transport.

This development is TVK’s objective to upgrade Tamil Nadu’s existing public transport network and facilities and improve connectivity across the southern state.
