Bears QB Bagent clears protocol; Keenum likely to start vs. Eagles

Tyson Bagent Clears Concussion Protocol, Set to Back Up Case Keenum

Chicago Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent has cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol and does not carry an injury designation for Monday night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, the 26‑year‑old backup is expected to serve as the backup to Case Keenum, who was the only quarterback on Chicago’s 53‑man roster to practice each day leading into Week 3.

Bagent Returns to Practice After Concussion

Bagent returned to practice Saturday and was a full participant after missing the Bears’ prior two sessions. The team said the backup sustained a concussion on his second play in relief of Caleb Williams in Chicago’s 9‑3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. After Bagent threw a short pass to his left that fell incomplete, he was driven to the turf by Minnesota outside linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel.

Keenum to Start Against Philadelphia Eagles

Case Keenum, 38, will get the start for the Bears in Week 3. Keenum was the only quarterback on the roster to practice each day leading into the game, giving him the edge in the quarterback competition while Williams is sidelined.

Caleb Williams Sidelined with Grade 2 Hamstring Strain

Starting quarterback Caleb Williams was ruled out Saturday after suffering a Grade 2 hamstring strain. The injury is expected to keep him out for three to four weeks, according to sources cited by ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Bears Quarterback Situation and Playoff Implications

With Williams on the injured reserve, the Bears will rely on a combination of Keenum and Bagent as they aim to remain competitive in the NFC North. The team’s ability to manage quarterback health and performance will be crucial as they navigate the early portion of the season.

As the Bears prepare for their next contest, the focus will be on maintaining depth and ensuring that both quarterbacks are ready to step in when called upon. The organization’s decisions in the coming weeks could shape their trajectory toward the playoffs.
