‘Darkwing Duck’ Is Back With An All-New Animated Series Greenlit For Disney+

Mark Hamill, Seth Rogen, Lizzy Caplan, and Lilimar Lead All-New Darkwing Duck Series

A new Darkwing Duck series has been announced for Disney+, reviving Drake Mallard as the masked crime fighter in an action-packed continuation of the beloved franchise. The project comes from Sean Tretta (Star Trek: Picard) and Borja Peña Gorostegui (Lost & Crowned), who serve as executive producers, with Point Grey Pictures — Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s production company — producing alongside James Weaver, Alex McAtee, and Gabby Granatham. Tad Stones, creator of the original series, consulted on the new adventures.

An Impressive Voice Cast Assembles

The lead voice cast marries Hollywood pedigree with emerging talent. Mark Hamill — renowned for Batman in Batman: The Animated Series and Batman: Arkham Asylum — voices Drake Mallard aka Darkwing Duck. Seth Rogen voices Launchpad McQuack, Lizzy Caplan voices Gosalyn Mallard, and Lilimar (Inside Out 2) plays Duckie.

The full ensemble includes Dan Stevens as Glade McTowers, Tiffany Shepis as Rosa, Kathryn Newton as Firecracker, Teo Briones as Timb, Tyler Dean Flores as Pondsy, Katie Rich as Officer Shanks, and Nat Faxon as Officer Webb.

A Darkwing Duck Return After 35 Years

The premise finds Darkwing Duck trapped for three decades in an alternate world that never knew his heroics. When Duckie — a rebellious teen who knows his legendary past — arrives, she drags the ego-driven vigilante back into action. Together they face old foes Negaduck and Megavolt while reuniting with Launchpad, Gosalyn, and Morgana to save the universe.

“Like every other fan of the original show, I’m excited to see Darkwing getting dangerous again in a whole new series,” said Tad Stones. “The new creative team has certainly amped up the action and comedy without forgetting the Disney heart.”

Creative Vision and Franchise Tradition

The Point Grey team shared: “Disney said ‘Let’s get dangerous’ and we said ‘hell yeah.'” The writers position Darkwing Duck alongside Robin Hood, Zorro, and Sherlock Holmes — characters endlessly reinterpreted across eras and mediums. “No matter when or where, Darkwing Duck will appear in a cloud of blue smoke to grab the spotlight,” they said.

The Original Darkwing Duck Legacy

The Emmy® Award-nominated original series, produced by Disney Television Animation, ran for 91 episodes from 1991 to 1995 across Disney Channel, ABC, and syndication, with a brief return from 1996 to 1997. The franchise expanded into NES (Darkwing Duck, 1992) and Game Boy (1993), plus comics including the Disney Afternoon Fun-Filled 1st Issue! (November 1994). Darkwing also appeared in the DuckTales reboot, and the original series is streaming on Disney+.
