A woman was killed in a single-vehicle collision Sunday morning near the entrance to Banff National Park, police said.
According to a news release issued Sunday afternoon, Banff RCMP responded to the collision on Highway 1, about two kilometers west of the entry gate, at approximately 5:33 a.m.
RCMP say one passenger in the vehicle, a 24-year-old woman from Canmore, was pronounced dead upon police arrival.
An RCMP crash and collision investigation led to the closure of one lane of westbound Highway 1, causing significant traffic disruptions for several hours.
According to 511 Alberta, the road fully reopened at approximately 3:09 p.m.
The RCMP say there are no further details available.
