Travis Kelce to kick off 1st Chiefs season since marrying Taylor Swift

Travis Kelce Opens 2026 Season Under the Spotlight as Taylor Swift’s Arrowhead Return Looms

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to kick off their 2026 regular season on Monday night at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, hosting the Denver Broncos in a highly anticipated matchup. This game marks a significant milestone for star tight end Travis Kelce, as it is his first regular-season game since marrying global superstar Taylor Swift this summer. With kickoff scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET on ABC and ESPN, fans are buzzing with anticipation not just for the football, but for the potential return of Swift to the stands.

Kelce’s 14th Season and the Future of His NFL Career

Monday’s game will begin Travis Kelce’s 14th season in the NFL, a remarkable tenure that has seen him become one of the greatest tight ends in the league’s history. However, questions about his future have followed him into the new year. After the Chiefs finished the 2025 season with a disappointing 6-11 record and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014, Kelce weighed his options before announcing in March that he would return for another season.

In a recent interview with ESPN’s Chris Berman, which also aired on “Good Morning America,” Kelce expressed his enduring passion for the game. “I’m still kind of sitting here like I don’t want to let this thing go … I want to keep playing until the wheels fall off, I always say,” Kelce stated. He added that he still has the “desire” to compete at a high level and is not ready to transition to the “next phase” of his life just yet. Playing this season on a one-year contract, Kelce enters 2026 after leading Kansas City in targets, receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns in 2025.

Will Taylor Swift Take Her Place in the Arrowhead Stands?

One of the most talked-about aspects of Monday night’s game is whether Taylor Swift will be in attendance. Neither Swift nor Kelce has publicly confirmed her plans for the opener. However, if she does attend and is seen publicly, the game could mark one of her first major public appearances since the couple’s star-studded wedding on July 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The couple’s nuptials were a highly publicized event, and Swift has largely kept a low profile since then.

A Retrospective: Swift and Kelce’s Arrowhead Journey

Arrowhead Stadium has played a pivotal role in the public trajectory of Swift and Kelce’s relationship. It was on Sept. 24, 2023, that Swift made her surprise debut at a Chiefs game against the Chicago Bears, watching from a suite alongside Kelce’s mother, Donna Kelce. This appearance came shortly after Kelce publicly revealed that he had invited Swift to see him play.

Swift went on to become a fixture at Chiefs games during the 2023 season, attending 13 games, including all four of Kansas City’s postseason games and Super Bowl LVIII. She returned for multiple games during the 2024 season, particularly at Arrowhead, and was present for the Chiefs’ postseason run through Super Bowl LIX in February 2025. By the 2025 season, however, Swift’s presence became far less visible, keeping a lower profile even when attending home games.

“It was the best night of my life. Marrying Taylor was, you know, it was more than I could have ever dreamed it to be because of all the people that showed up and the amount of love that was in the air.”

Reflecting on their wedding day during his interview with Berman, Kelce shared his joy, describing the experience as “unbelievable.”
