Australia defended its Commonwealth Games beam crown despite the defending champion finishing last in Tuesday’s final.
The result won’t worry Kate MacDonald too much given her medal win at Birmingham was one of the shocks of the Games and she took the uneven bars honors just yesterday with a gold medal.
But Tuesday’s beam final was all about Brianna Scott, who won Australia’s 27th gold medal of the Games.
The 24-year-old had already overcome her shock on Sunday by winning the silver medal in the individual all-around final with a 13.900 on beam.
That form continued into the beam final, with Scott looking confident from the moment she hit the narrow beam confidently in a tangle of powder.
She performed even better than on Sunday, scoring 19.933 points after her perfect landing drew applause from the entire Emirates Arena crowd.
Australia’s newest gold medalist was typically understated when asked about her victory just minutes after confirming her place on the podium.
“Honestly, I’m just glad I stayed on beam,” she told Channel 7.

“None of it has sunk in yet. I had a lot of fun with my team and this is a great way to put an end to it.”
“I was still a little nervous, but I’m just glad I got the job done.”
The balance beam was Scott’s last event on the schedule, and now the young star had every right to celebrate.
“I’ll have a little celebration, I don’t know, I haven’t really planned anything, so we’ll see,” she said.
The Sydney local on Sunday credited teammate Georgia Godwin and Canadian great Ellie Black for pushing her to the limit in Glasgow.
“They’re both such great role models. Georgia is like almost all of our idols on the team,” Scott told Comm Games’ Australian media team.
“We look up to her. It’s great to have her around. She’s the most supportive person you could have on your team.”
“And of course Ellie, she’s like an icon of the sport, so it was really great to compete with both of them.”
