His two eldest sons, Godfrey and Joan, decided to organize the funeral. But first they wanted to sue the hospital where their mother died. Six months after his hospitalization, doctors decided to turn off his ventilator, a decision both elders disputed.
20 pounds per day
All this time, their mother’s body was kept in the funeral home. This conservation cost £20 per day, or about £5,500 after four years. To this sum were added almost £59,000 in legal costs, making a total of approximately €70,000.

This decision was not shared by their three younger siblings, who decided to take legal action. The High Court in London eventually gave control of their mother’s body to her youngest son, finding that the circumstances of the case were “unusual”.
Amount withdrawn from inheritance
“It is necessary and timely to move away from Godfrey and Joan. The main thing is that the body is buried with the dignity due to it and, if possible, without unnecessary additional delays.– said the judge presiding over the case.
According to the court, in the absence of a will, the five children should receive an equal share of the inheritance, which, in particular, includes a house worth £825,000.
Expenses due to the funeral directors, as well as legal fees, will be deducted from the share of the estate of the two elders found responsible for blocking the funeral.
