Nigeria striker Victor Boniface is using his pre-season training at Bayer Leverkusen under new coach Carles Martinez Novell to fight for another chance at the club, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Boniface spent last season on loan at Werder Bremen, where he did not quite live up to the expectations that could have brought him a permanent contract with the club.
Back at Bayer Leverkusen, where he has faced an uncertain future for the past 18 months, the 24-year-old, who saw a transfer to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nasr fall through in January 2025, looks like a player on trial.
He’s already started on a good note, returning early to pre-season training and also scoring twice in a 7-0 win over SF Baumberg in their first game as they ramp up preparations for next season.
He still has two years left on his contract with the club, but his stay at the club is entirely dependent on what the manager sees in him during training as well as games.
However, the transfer will be sanctioned if they receive an offer in the region of 20 million euros.
