After a cool Wednesday, Giessen and Central Hesse will become warmer again. Temperatures will rise significantly by the weekend.

Giessen – In and around Giessen in Central Hesse the weather is currently changing. And some people who have had enough of the heat of the past few weeks may not be too happy about it: According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the cloudy and cool environment will be followed by a significant rise in temperatures again by the weekend. The heat is returning.

What exactly is predicted? On Wednesday, the weather in Giessen and Central Hesse continues to show a rather unpleasant side: partly cloudy, with occasional light rain or drizzle. The maximum temperature reaches only about 21 degrees – quite modest for a July day. Moderate winds from west to northwest also provide a feeling of freshness. Thursday evening will be partly cloudy or very cloudy, with a chance of intermittent rain, and temperatures will drop to 8-13 degrees.

Thursday will bring clouds to Giessen, then the sun will return to Central Hesse.

Thursday will first start with thick clouds in Giessen. During the day it becomes easier from the south. In the north of Hesse there may be sporadic rain at first, otherwise it will be dry. Maximum values range from 20 degrees in the north to 26 degrees in the south of Hesse. On Friday evening there will be mostly light clouds and no precipitation – temperatures will drop to 7-12 degrees, and in some valleys even up to 5 degrees.

Friday brings the first taste of the next heat wave that is rolling towards Giessen and other parts of Central Hesse: in the south it is often clear, sunny and without precipitation. Temperatures in the region are expected to reach around 24 degrees. The wind usually blows from the northwest. Weather commentator Dominic Jung explains: “Frosty mornings are a thing of the past – summer is back with a vengeance.”

Hot weekend in Giessen – up to 31 degrees in Giessen

According to DWD, Saturday marks the current peak of the recent rise in temperatures: partly cloudy but dry, with values rising to 27-31 degrees in Hesse. Even on the Wasserkuppe in Rhön the temperature still reaches 24 degrees. There is also a moderate westerly wind. Even if the highest values are expected primarily in the south of Hesse, Giessen is also likely to be significantly warmer than in the first half of the week.

Sunday night will begin with some clouds, but as the night wears on, the clouds will thicken, but no precipitation is still expected. The lowest temperature is between 13 and 17 degrees, which is significantly milder than previous nights. Rain is only on the agenda at the beginning of the new week: then, in addition to high temperatures, thunderstorms and rain are expected.
