India T20 vice-captain Tilak Verma made key comments about his playing style and the team’s needs. He made it clear that it was inappropriate to play aggressively once he took the field as wickets had fallen early in the UK and Ireland tours and his batting style would depend on match conditions. Speaking ahead of the first T20 match against Zimbabwe, he said that sometimes you have to play patiently for the sake of the team.
Tilak Verma said that when you lose 4 or 5 wickets in the first overs, it is irresponsible to go into the crease and get out from the first ball. I can’t hit like that. When playing for a country, especially when the vice-captain is in charge, it is important to play according to the tactics expected by the management. It was explained that since most of the matches had been played on the Asian continent for the last two years, they could not quickly get used to the conditions in Great Britain, and that is why they were expected to lose there.
He believes England are a strong team and the lessons learned from their performances will be useful in the future. Commenting on the upcoming Zimbabwe series, he said that Zimbabwe cannot be underestimated and that they are likely to provide a challenge. Tilak Verma expressed confidence that the experience from last year’s tour and the knowledge gained from the Ireland-England series will be used by the team in this series.
