According to the government in Tehran, a framework agreement between the US and Iran no longer exists. The agreement has been suspended, Deputy Foreign Minister Qasem Gharibabadi said, according to Fars.
“We are busy defending the country,” the agency quotes the minister as saying in a television interview. “Unfortunately, with their aggressive actions, the Americans have violated their obligations under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,” Gharibabadi continued.
It was for this reason that Iran no longer felt bound by the agreement. In mid-June, the United States and Iran actually agreed on a framework agreement that would pave the way for a permanent end to the war.
Framework agreement: deal within 60 days
It was decided to negotiate the final deal within 60 days. It also includes a call for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. A ceasefire has also been in effect since the beginning of April. In early July, the conflict escalated again.
Two American soldiers killed
According to the US military, two US soldiers have been killed for the first time since the recent escalation of the war in Iran. They died Friday during an operation in Jordan as U.S. forces and their allies defended themselves against Iranian missiles and drone attacks.
