The incident killed one person and damaged several cars parked below (Photo credit: X) MUMBAI: A 21-year-old man was killed and another was seriously injured after a nearly 120-foot-tall tower crane collapsed at an under-construction building in the JP North residential complex on Mira Road East on Thursday evening.The accident also damaged several cars and two-wheelers parked inside the residential complex.The incident occurred at around 8pm at a construction site adjacent to the Irish JK Society in the Ghodbunder area.The building under construction had reached the 11th floor when a tower crane suddenly collapsed, causing panic among workers and residents.According to police, the crane fell partly onto a construction site and partly into the grounds and car park of the Irish JK Society, damaging several parked cars.Locals rushed to the spot and helped rescue the injured before the police, Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation firefighters and other emergency services arrived.The injured were taken to a nearby hospital where 21-year-old Mohammad Mujammil Khokar succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Another victim is being treated.“The exact cause of the crane collapse is yet to be ascertained. The investigation is ongoing,” said Rahulkumar Patil, senior inspector of Kashigaon police station.The accident caused panic in a residential complex as a section of the crane crashed into a public parking lot, damaging several four-wheelers and two-wheelers. Authorities are assessing the extent of the damage while further investigations continue.
