Focus Features has released a trailer for the new historical drama “Insurrection” starring Andrew Garfield.
The film’s official logline reads: “Andrew Garfield plays the legendary leader of a brutal rebellion against the tyranny of King Richard II. As war rages across England, he forms an army of the people to face the king’s might in a fight for justice and survival.” Rising takes place in the aftermath of the Black Plague, when King Richard II levied brutal taxes on his subjects to finance the Hundred Years’ War.
Other actors include Jamie Bell, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis, Thomasin McKenzie, Jonny Lee Miller, Woody Norman, Katherine Waterston and Sky Young.
Jason Bourne director Paul Greengrass wrote, directed and produced Uprising. Jason Blum, Gregory Goodman, Joanna Kaye, Joe Neurauter and Lars Sylvest also serve as producers.
Garfield, a two-time Oscar nominee, most recently starred opposite Claire Foy in the fantasy film The Magic Faraway Tree, which has already been released in the UK and hits US cinemas on August 21st. His other recent credits include After the Hunt, We Live in Time, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tick, Tick… BOOM! and “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.”
Greengrass’s latest project was The Missing Bus, a disaster thriller starring Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera. His other directorial credits include News of the World, July 22, Green Zone, Captain Phillips and United 93, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director.
