The former estate of current Darien royalty Christopher Plummer is back on the market with a price tag of $12.995 million.
One of 24 people to win the Triple Crown of Acting (Tony, Emmy and Oscar), Plummer commanded the screen for seven decades, with standout roles in The Sound of Music, Knives Out, Waterloo, The Man Who Would Be King, The Fall of the Roman Empire and Up. On stage, Plummer shone in roles in Cyrano, Barrymore, Othello and King Lear.
Plummer lived in Darien in the late ’70s and then moved to Weston, where he lived for nearly 40 years. Plummer died at his home in Weston in 2021 at the age of 91. Last year, his wife Elaine Taylor donated eight acres of her property to the Aspetuck Land Trust, helping it create a 750-acre nature preserve along the city line.
The property last sold for $11.2 million in 2015, according to city property records. Zillow reports note that the property came on and off the market in 2019 and 2020, with a last listing price of $10.5 million.
Built in 1866 in a Colonial style, the 7,610-square-foot estate includes 200 feet of waterfront with its own private beach as well as a pool. The home features ornate chandeliers and the interior combines water views with old world design elements. The listing notes that the current owners have renovated and restored the home. The home sits on a 1.17-acre lot and has five bedrooms and eight bathrooms.
