15 years ago, the $90 million sci-fi action movie was supposed to not only revive the ’80s franchise, but also make “Minecraft” actor Jason Momoa a movie star. Neither worked.
Most recently, Jason Momoa broke one box office record after another with Jack Black in the movie Minecraft. Just one of many successes in the former model’s career, Momoa finally began his acting career with the cult series “Baywatch” and then landed a role in the iconic HBO “Game of Thrones.”
As Aquaman, he became part of the (now discontinued) DC Extended Universe, and his first solo adventure in 2018 became a mega-hit, grossing over a billion dollars at the global box office. Momoa also appeared in “Dune” and the tenth blockbuster “Fast and Furious.”
In this fantastic action film, Jason Momoa followed in the footsteps of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
But, of course, there is a downside: the first film, completely adapted to the presence of Momoa, turned out to be a complete disaster – even though it was an attempt to revive the once popular franchise! Because With “ConanIn 2011, a 46-year-old man followed in the great footsteps Arnold Schwarzeneggerwho portrayed the barbarian in two films and celebrated his international breakthrough with the role.

Momoa immediately got the same thing: because which of Marcus Nispel The reboot, based on Michael Bay’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, cost an impressive $90 million but only managed to gross about $63 million worldwide. Absolute failure!
There were also devastating reviews: This film platform Rotten Tomatoes has only 25 percent of mostly positive reviews, and we at FILMSARTS have only one tired star left (out of a possible five!) for the fantasy action movie. In conclusion our criticism it says, “Aside from plenty of action-packed moments, Nispel’s flat action epic fails to offer anything that even approaches the quality of the charming original.”
Jason Momoa also thinks Conan is a “bunch of crap.”
Even lead actor Momoa would probably agree with this verdict. Because in an interview with a magazine GQ The native Hawaiian was quite critical of Conan. Accordingly, he had a good time during filming. However, like many fans and critics, he was disappointed with the quality of the film. “This is one of the best experiences I’ve ever had,” Momoa said. “And it turned into a big pile of crap.”
Perhaps it was a small consolation to him that even some of the most negative reviewers did not see Momoa as the reason for the failure, but blamed it on a weak script and shoddy acting. If Momoa became a Hollywood star somewhat late, then Conan was somewhat forgotten about 15 years later…
By the way: The film with Jason Momoa, which we will introduce you to in more detail in the next article, is also somewhat lost.
This little-known apocalyptic horror film features Jim Carrey, Keanu Reeves and Jason Momoa in their most unusual roles.
