Updating your Aadhaar details has become easier than ever. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new feature that allows residents to add or update their email ID directly through the Aadhaar app, eliminating the need to visit the Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
The service is available from July 1, 2026 and will be offered free of charge for six months, making it more convenient for users to keep their Aadhaar records up to date.
WHAT HAS CHANGED?
Until now, anyone who wanted to add or update their Aadhaar-linked email address had to visit the Aadhaar enrollment or update center. With the latest update, this process can now be completed digitally through the official Aadhaar app.
The move aims to make Aadhaar services more accessible while reducing the need for physical visits to service centres.
FREE SERVICE FOR SIX MONTHS
UIDAI has waived the usual fee of Rs 75 for updating email ID through Aadhaar app.
The waiver is valid from July 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026. During this period, users can update or add their email address without any charge, provided they are using the official Aadhaar app.
WHY LINK YOUR EMAIL ID TO AADHAAR?
The registered email address helps users to receive important updates related to their Aadhaar account. Some of the key benefits include:
Notices related to Aadhaar services
Authentication and verification alerts
Simplified communication with UIDAI
Improved account recovery and security.
Updating contact details also helps ensure that users do not miss important Aadhaar-related communications.
HOW TO UPDATE YOUR EMAIL ID
To update your email address through the Aadhaar app:
Download or open the official Aadhaar app.
Log in using the required authentication.
Select the option to add or update your email ID.
Enter a new email address.
Complete the verification process by following the on-screen instructions.
Submit your request.
Once verified, your updated email ID will be linked to your Aadhaar.
RELIABLE EARLY RESPONSE
The new feature has received encouraging response from users. According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, more than 2.5 lakh email updates were recorded in the first two days of the service’s launch.
A STEP TO DIGITAL INDIA
The introduction of online email updates is part of UIDAI’s broader efforts to simplify Aadhaar services and improve the digital experience for residents. By providing more services through the Aadhaar app, authorities aim to make identity management faster, more convenient and less dependent on physical service centers.
