Jordan Henderson has not been banned from playing for England again during the World Cup despite undergoing surgery on a broken arm.

The Brentford midfielder suffered a horrific injury when he fell awkwardly after attempting to jump over the advertising hoardings on the edge of the pitch following the 3-2 win over Mexico.

Henderson, who did not play in the round of 16 match at Estadio Azteca, was carried off the field on a stretcher while he was given oxygen.

The 36-year-old man announced this on social networks.external on Wednesday regarding an operation in Kansas City, which is England’s base for the tournament.

It is understood that, although unlikely, Henderson could still be included in the squads for the remaining games and the possibility of playing in the squad will be explored.

“It just shows who he is as a person and as a guy,” Aston Villa striker Morgan Rodgers said when asked about Henderson’s influence on the team.

“I hope he can still play with us until the end of the tournament.

“He’s not going to rule himself out, and neither are we. I think his belief in his body, his abilities, his confidence and who he is and what he represents as a person is very important to our group.”

“He’s kind of the heartbeat of the group. To see him smiling this morning and to see him as happy as he is, regardless of what’s happened in the last 48 hours, is great to see and we hope we can get him on the field as soon as possible.”

Henderson will remain with the team for the duration of the tournament.
