REGINA — The Edmonton Elks improved to 6-1 with a dramatic 36-34 victory over the defending 112th Gray Cup champions Saskatchewan Roughriders at Mosaic Stadium on Thursday night.
The top two defensive teams couldn’t match the stellar play of veteran signal-callers Cody Fajardo and Trevor Harris at quarterback. Fajardo and Harris combined for 896 passing yards and eight touchdown passes.

57 – VINCENT BLANCHARD’S OUT OF THE YARD KICK
Vincent Blanchard was Edmonton’s hero, kicking a 57-yard field goal as time expired at Mosaic Stadium to give the Moose their sixth win of the season. The Canadian made three of three field goals Thursday night for the Elks and converted all three of his extra point attempts.
510 – CODY FAJARDO TRANSITION YARDS
Fajardo’s career night took a back seat to Blanchard’s field goal, but the veteran signal-caller set a career passing record, surpassing 500 yards for the first time during his CFL tenure. Austin Mack and TJ Luther were Fajardo’s favorite targets, each racking up 150 receiving yards.

Austin Mack was quiet for most of the game against the Roughriders defense, but when he caught the ball, he made it count. The 28-year-old had just four receptions on the night, with just one catch for 27 yards in the first half. Fajardo connected with Mack for two massive second-half touchdowns, one for 57 yards and the other for 81 yards. Mack added another catch for a modest eight yards to round out his stat line.
