Folarin Balogun could play for the United States in the World Cup round of 16 match against Belgium after FIFA suspended his one-game suspension.
The 25-year-old striker received a straight red card for a foul on Bosnia and Herzegovina defender Tarik Muharemovic as the hosts won the round of 16 match 2-0.
FIFA said the automatic one-match ban would be suspended for a year.
“In accordance with Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the application of match suspensions is suspended for a probationary period of one year,” the statement said.
“If Folarin Balogun commits another violation of a similar nature and gravity during the probationary period, the suspension will be revoked and the sanction will be imposed without prejudice to any additional sanctions imposed for the new violation.”
US President Donald Trump thanked FIFA for “righting a great injustice” in a post on Truth Social.
Trump wrote: “Thank you FIFA for doing the right thing and reversing a huge injustice! President DONALD TRUMP.”
